On December 6, 2011, LSU star Tyran Mathieu was named as a
Heisman finalist.  Other candidates headed to NY for the award
ceremony included Trent Richardson - Alabama, Montee
Ball-Wisconsin, Andrew Luck-Stanford, and Robert Griffin III-Baylor
Below is what Mathieu said after learning of his selection as a
finalist.

"This is a dream come true and I am humbled by this honor to go to New
York to represent LSU," said Mathieu. "It  shows that hard work and
persistence pays off. I am thankful for this opportunity and I want to
thank my coaches and teammates for pushing me each and every day.
Coach Miles, Coach John Chavis and Coach Ron Copper are always
